Suboxone Program
The Suboxone detox program here at Doctors Medi Center treats prescription pain medication dependence, heroin addiction, and methadone or other opioid dependence. Unlike some other clinics, the program here at Doctors Medi Center is office-based. Our team has special expertise in helping to transition patients with opioid dependence to Suboxone in the privacy of our conveniently located office.
Dr. Sanna Kalika leads the program with over 10 years of experience in dealing with opioid dependence and the transition to Suboxone.
For the comfort of our patients, Suboxone treatment is initiated and continued by our physicians in private individual sessions. First, you will be given a comprehensive substance dependence assessment, a full physical exam and an evaluation of your current mental status. The pros and cons of the medication will be presented. Treatment expectations, as well as issues involved with maintenance and medically supervised tapering off the medication will also be discussed. Each patient’s needs will be addressed and an individualized treatment plan that includes initial dosing and a follow-up plan will be devised.
Over time, the frequency of suboxone prescriptions can be lessened, depending on each individual’s needs. Ultimately our office believes that Suboxone is a safer alternative to heroin or other opiate use, with reduced health risks and a lower risk profile than other treatments.
Suboxone may be appropriate for you if:
- You are struggling with an opioid dependence.
- You are motivated to stop abusing opioids.
- You have a stable environment in which to recover (which ideally includes supportive relationships and resources to help you engage fully in treatment).
Suboxone may not be right for you if:
- You are not physically dependent on opioids.
- You have mental health conditions that are not currently being addressed and/or you have suicidal thoughts.
- You are pregnant.
- You also struggle with alcohol dependence.
- You have had an adverse reaction to Suboxone in the past.
- You are taking medications that might adversely interact with Suboxone, such as naltrexone.
- You have abused Suboxone or methadone in the past.
